Celebrating Our Heroes: National Volunteer Day 2026 at Sydney Olympic Park

May 31, 2026

At Sydney Olympic Park, community isn’t just a word—it’s the very heartbeat of everything we do. On Saturday, 30th May 2026, our club came together to celebrate National Volunteer Day, turning the spotlight on the incredible individuals who selflessly dedicate their time, energy, and passion to keep our club thriving.
The morning was filled with laughter, shared stories, and an overwhelming sense of gratitude.

A Sweet Celebration of Community Spirit

The day kicked off with a spectacular morning tea, and it’s safe to say our members outdid themselves! The tables were overflowing with a generous spread of lovely home-baked cakes, savory treats, and goodies brought in by our wonderful club community.

From perfectly dusted sponges to decadent slices, the morning tea was a delicious reflection of the warmth and generosity that defines our club culture. It wasn’t just about the food, though it was about taking a moment to pause, connect, and say a collective “thank you” to the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes.

Inspiring Words from Our Leaders

The highlight of the morning tea was a series of inspiring addresses from key figures in our community, who paused to reflect on the immense value of our volunteer network.

Archery Australia CEO, Peter Bromley, took to the podium first, praising the culture of the club and its vital role within the broader national sporting landscape:
“The true target of any great club isn’t just sporting success; it’s the community it builds. What I see here at Sydney Olympic Park is nothing short of inspiring. Our volunteers are the ultimate custodians of the sport, creating a welcoming pathway for anyone who wants to pick up a bow. Your tireless energy keeps the spirit of the 2000 Olympics alive in this venue every single week, and the entire national archery community owes you a massive debt of gratitude.”

Following Peter, Honorary Life Member, Jon Banard, shared an emotional and deeply resonant speech, drawing on decades of club history:
“Looking around this room today, seeing the generational growth and the incredible spread of home-baked treats, I am deeply moved. Over the years, I’ve watched this club evolve, but the one constant has been the inspiring selflessness of our volunteers. You don’t just give your time; you give this club its heart and soul. To every nominee being recognized today, and to everyone who lends a hand behind the scenes, thank you for making this club a family.”

Why Our Volunteers Mean the World to Us

Volunteers are the backbone of Sydney Olympic Park. Without them, our programs couldn’t run, the matches wouldn’t be played, and the supportive environment we all enjoy simply wouldn’t exist.

Our volunteers take on countless roles from coaching and mentoring our younger members to managing events, maintaining equipment, and handling administration. Their dedication ensures that our club remains a safe, vibrant, and inclusive space for everyone. The community spirit on displays this National Volunteer Day proved that when we give back, we all grow stronger together.
